چکیده

We present a refined method for rotation estimation of signals on the 2-Sphere. Our approach utilizes a fast correlation in the harmonic domain to estimate rotation angles of arbitrary size and resolution. The method is able to achieve great accuracy even for very low spherical harmonic expansions of the input signals without using correspondences or any other kind of a priori information. The rotation parameters are computed analytically without additional iterative postprocessing or “fine tuning”. The theoretical advances presented in this paper can be applied to a wide range of practical problems such as: shape description and shape retrieval, 3D rigid registration, robot positioning with omni-directional cameras or 3D invariant feature design.

Spherical Region-Based Matching of Vanishing Points in Catadioptric Images

A large literature exists for rotation estimation using vanishing points (VP). All these VP-based methods require to match the vanishing points in consecutive frames. It is usually considered that this matching step is trivial. However whereas some techniques exist, they suffer from some important limitations and might not work correctly in real robotic applications. For example, the continuity...

Pose Estimation using ∞ L

A method is presented for estimating the pose (position & orientation) of a camera based on a set of correspondences between world space and camera space by decomposing the problem into orientation estimation and triangulation. Both of these steps can be proven to be globally convergent which allows fast and accurate estimation. Furthermore, the pose estimation works in full projective space, p...

3D Rotation Estimation from Catadioptric Lines without Correspondences using the Radon Transform, Harmonic Analysis and Conformal Geometric Algebra

Omnidirectional vision systems provide a large field of view, this property can benefit algorithms developed to solve robotic tasks. One interesting problem is the estimation of the rotation between omnidirectional images. Since the images taken by omnidirectional sensors can be mapped to a sphere, the problem of attitude estimation of a 3D camera rotation can be treated as a problem of estimat...

Camera Pose Estimation in Unknown Environments using a Sequence of Wide-Baseline Monocular Images

In this paper, a feature-based technique for the camera pose estimation in a sequence of wide-baseline images has been proposed. Camera pose estimation is an important issue in many computer vision and robotics applications, such as, augmented reality and visual SLAM. The proposed method can track captured images taken by hand-held camera in room-sized workspaces with maximum scene depth of 3-4...

A coarse-to-fine IP-driven registration for pose estimation from single ultrasound image

A fast registration making use of implicit polynomial (IP) models is helpful for the real-time pose estimation from single clinical free-hand Ultrasound (US) image, because it is superior in the areas such as robustness against image noise, fast registration without enquiring correspondences, and fast IP coefficient transformation. However it might lead to the lack of accuracy or failure regist...
